Free Christmas Tree Recycling Through January 11

The city of Arlington is a city that pays attention to reducing waste. Over the last several years, the city has adopted and refined its programs and regulations to promote and facilitate recycling, in particular. The Arlington City Council sees this as an essential building block of the future of the community.

One of the most popular city programs is the Christmas Tree Recycling that takes place every year after the holidays.

This year, the city of Arlington will make sure that all Christmas trees are properly recycled. The initiative started December 26 and will run till January 11.

If you want to take part in this program, you can transport your tree to the mulching facility center at the Arlington Landfill. You can enter the landfill at 800 Mosier Valley Road and Collins Street, which is about one mile north of Green Oaks Boulevard. The landfill is operating from 7 AM to 4:30 PM every day except Sunday.

The residents of Arlington can also drop their live trees off at the Calloway’s Nursery located at 4940 S. Cooper St. If you decide to take your Christmas tree to Calloway’s, make sure you leave it in one of the containers on the north side of the building (please do not leave trees next to the containers). Trees can be left any time during Calloway’s business hours.

And, of course, make sure to remove all your precious ornaments before you leave your tree to mulch! And save your tree stands, lights, and all other personal items for next year. Flocked trees can be recycled as well. If your tree is higher than 5 feet, make sure to cut it in half before you take it for recycling, as this will be required.

The recycled trees will be made into mulch along with collected leaves of the season. In the spring, the mulch will be available for the residents of Arlington free of charge! It’s a beautiful cycle to celebrate as we start 2019.
