Arlington Ranks 19th Among Best U.S. Cities for Driving, According to WalletHub Report

0
wallethub arlington texas

Arlington, Texas, has secured the 19th spot on WalletHub’s newly released ranking of the Best Cities to Drive In, underscoring the city’s efforts to provide an efficient, safe, and affordable driving environment for its residents and visitors.

In its comprehensive study, WalletHub analyzed 100 of the largest U.S. cities across 30 metrics designed to assess overall driver-friendliness. These indicators span from average fuel prices to annual traffic delays and the risk of accidents, offering a thorough evaluation of the driving experience in each city.

The personal finance website divided its analysis into four key categories:

  1. Cost of Ownership & Maintenance
  2. Traffic & Infrastructure
  3. Safety
  4. Access to Vehicles & Maintenance

Each city was assigned a score based on these dimensions, using a 100-point scale, where 100 signifies the most favorable driving conditions. Arlington achieved a total score of 58.46, placing it among the top 20 cities nationwide. Other Texas cities—Corpus Christi, Plano, and Lubbock—also earned high marks, further highlighting the state’s focus on driver satisfaction.

Traffic and Infrastructure Investments

A significant portion of Arlington’s ranking can be attributed to its ongoing commitment to improving road conditions and reducing traffic congestion. In Fiscal Year 2024, Arlington’s Public Works Department allocated $28.7 million for street maintenance and $61.9 million for new construction projects. These efforts are designed to enhance the city’s transportation infrastructure, which spans 99 square miles, and provide smoother commutes for the city’s residents.

Arlington employs a systematic approach to street maintenance, using a Red-Yellow-Green scoring system to assess road conditions. Streets rated Red, indicating the poorest condition, are prioritized for repair or reconstruction to ensure long-term improvements. This proactive approach is aimed at achieving a more balanced and sustainable street network. Currently, 82% of Arlington’s 3,015 lane miles are rated Yellow or Green, signaling that the majority of the city’s roads are in satisfactory or good condition.

Focus on Road Safety

Safety is a core focus of Arlington’s transportation strategy. Through the Safe Streets Arlington initiative, the city is integrating safety improvements into regular street maintenance and construction projects to protect all road users, from motorists to pedestrians. This initiative has played a key role in enhancing the city’s ranking, as WalletHub placed significant emphasis on the safety dimension in its evaluation.

By continually investing in street improvements and implementing safety programs, Arlington is reinforcing its commitment to fostering a safe and efficient driving environment, benefiting both its residents and the thousands of visitors who traverse the city each day.

For more details on the Safe Streets Arlington initiative, please visit the Safe Streets Arlington webpage.

Arlington’s inclusion in WalletHub’s Best Cities to Drive In ranking serves as a testament to the city’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents by ensuring safer, more reliable, and cost-effective transportation infrastructure.

Arlington Residents Can Dispose of Household Items for Free at Local Landfill Three Times a Year

0

Arlington residents looking to declutter their homes have a great opportunity to do so without the usual disposal costs. The Arlington landfill is offering homeowners up to three free visits per year to drop off bulky household items such as old carpet, appliances, tree limbs, tires, and fence panels. For any additional visits beyond the three free disposals, a discounted rate applies, helping residents manage waste affordably.

How It Works:

To take advantage of this offer, Arlington Water Utilities account holders, or authorized users on the account, must present a valid Texas driver’s license or Texas ID at the landfill’s scale house upon arrival. The provided ID must match the name and address on the Arlington Water Utilities account for the residence. This ensures that only Arlington homeowners benefit from the offer, which is non-transferable.

Homeowners wishing to update or manage the authorized users on their accounts should contact the City’s Action Center at 817-459-6777. Authorized users must reside at the same address listed on the utility account, and residents can also add or remove authorized users via the City’s online platform.

No Coupons Required:

Since 2020, Arlington residents have not needed to print landfill coupons for redemption at the Arlington landfill. This change makes the disposal process more convenient and paperless, aligning with modern waste management practices.

Landfill Details and Fees:

It’s important to note that contractors, landlords, owners of multiple properties, and apartment complex tenants do not qualify for this benefit and will be charged the regular landfill fees. The Arlington landfill, located at 800 Mosier Valley Road, operates Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents with questions can contact the landfill directly at 817-354-2305.

Hazardous Waste Disposal:

Residents are reminded that hazardous household materials such as paint, motor oil, and pesticides cannot be disposed of at the landfill or placed curbside for regular trash collection. Instead, these items can be dropped off free of charge at the City of Fort Worth’s Environmental Collection Center, located at 6400 Bridge Street. The Center is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For additional details, residents can visit the Hazardous Household Waste: Environmental Collection Center webpage.

For more information on Arlington’s waste disposal services, including landfill restrictions and rates, visit the City’s Garbage and Recycling webpage. Arlington’s commitment to offering free and discounted waste disposal helps keep the community clean and supports environmentally responsible habits for its residents.
