Third Arrest Made in Death of Riley Jordan: 17-Year-Old Charged with Providing Firearm

ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington Police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Martin High School student Riley Jordan. The new charges provide critical answers regarding how a group of juveniles came into possession of the handgun used in the February 20 tragedy.

The Investigation: Stolen and Supplied

Investigators have identified Cameron Tantillo, 17, as the individual who allegedly supplied the weapon. According to police reports:

  • The Theft: Tantillo reportedly broke into a locked gun safe belonging to a relative and took the firearm without permission.
  • Weapon Security: The gun’s registered owner had the weapon properly secured prior to the theft. Because the owner followed safety protocols, they are not expected to face charges and have cooperated fully with the investigation.
  • The Charges: Tantillo was booked into the Tarrant County Jail and charged with making a firearm accessible to a child resulting in death.

Timeline of the Tragedy

The incident occurred on February 20 while Riley Jordan and several friends were gathered in a bedroom at a home on Sausalito Drive.

  • Unsafe Handling: Evidence suggests the teens were “playing” with the handgun and pointing the weapon at one another.
  • The Shooting: The gun discharged while being pointed, striking Jordan in the head.
  • Manslaughter Charge: A second juvenile, whose name is withheld due to his age, remains charged with manslaughter for the actual discharge of the weapon.

Community Impact and Safety Education

This case serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of firearm proximity to minors, even when weapons are stored in a safe. The Arlington Police Department continues to urge residents to use heavy-duty security measures and to educate youth on the life-altering consequences of handling firearms.
