Arlington is calling on its residents to play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of the International Corridor, a vibrant commercial hub in East Arlington. Located along East Pioneer Parkway, from Center Street to the eastern city limit with Grand Prairie, this area is known for its cultural diversity and bustling business activity, home to over 1,100 businesses including the notable Ben Thanh Plaza, Halal Market, Fiesta Grocery, and a myriad of other restaurants and small enterprises.
Following the City Council’s decision on August 27, 2024, Arlington is seeking to appoint 19 dedicated community members to the newly formed International Corridor Implementation Steering Committee. This initiative is part of a broader effort to continue the prioritization and execution of action items outlined in the City’s International Corridor Vision, adopted in 2023. The Vision aims to enhance the area’s lighting, walkability, aesthetics, and identity, while also building community capacity.
The city is looking for passionate International Corridor residents, property owners, and business operators who are committed to transforming the corridor into an even more dynamic and welcoming environment. Interested individuals from other parts of the city are also encouraged to apply.
These volunteer positions represent a significant opportunity for civic-minded citizens to influence the future landscape of one of Arlington’s key districts. The application deadline is set for September 30, 2024, with the steering committee members slated to be appointed at a Council meeting on November 12, 2024. Bi-monthly steering committee meetings are scheduled to commence in early 2025.
